Run Your Race

So Run, That You May Obtain: The Urgency of Living on Purpose”
Series: Living on Purpose – Run to Win
Key Scripture:

“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!”
— 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NLT)

Do you know what you were created to do?

That’s not just a motivational question—it’s a Kingdom call. Because purpose is not about personal success. It’s about eternal impact.

When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he used the metaphor of a race to describe the Christian life. Everyone runs, but not everyone runs with intention. Some run aimlessly. Some run distracted. But Paul says run to win. Run with focus. Run with fire. Run like your purpose depends on it—because it does.

A Real-Life Example: Miss Tammie the Nurse

Recently, my mother had a medical procedure, and we were blessed to meet an incredible nurse named Tammie. From the moment we met her, it was clear—this woman was walking in purpose.

She was attentive, efficient, kind, and compassionate. As she cared for my mom, she shared how she had been a nurse for years and even during COVID, she helped her elderly neighbors through their illness from home—partnering with their doctor to keep them safe and cared for.

She didn’t do it for applause or recognition. She did it because it was who she was—who she was created to be. Before we left, she gave me a hug and told me she would be praying for my mom. She had even taken a sticker from her chart with her name on it. “I pray for all my patients for seven days,” she said, “and then on New Year’s Eve, I pray for every patient I’ve had that year.”

That’s purpose. That’s legacy. That’s impact.

Tammie wasn’t just doing a job—she was living out her calling. And it was beautiful.

The Cost of Not Knowing Your Purpose

For a long time, I didn’t know mine. I did what many of us do—I followed the path of my circumstances. I worked, I achieved, I checked the boxes. But deep down, I knew there was more. I wasn’t sure what God created me for, and because of that, I spent time, energy, and resources on things that weren’t aligned with God’s Kingdom purpose.  I wasn’t doing anything bad or wrong, I just didn’t have a clear direction.

As Dr. Myles Munroe said, “Where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.”

That’s why it matters. That’s why this blog series matters. Because until we know our Kingdom purpose, we risk living life off course. We risk waking up one day and wondering, what has happened to my life?

The Call to Take AIM

This year, I’m answering the call with a fresh urgency. No more “they” and “them.” If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

Psalm 86:11 (TPT) says:

“Teach me more about You, how You work and how You move, so that I can walk onward in Your truth until everything within me brings honor to Your name.”

That’s the heartbeat of living on purpose—to bring honor to God’s name in everything.

It’s time to take AIM and be:

  • Accountable to what God has placed in our hands
  • Intentional in every step we take
  • Maintaining our relationship with the One who gives purpose

Your Turn

Are you just running… or are you running to win?
Do you know your why? Are you aware of your impact?

Let this be your moment to pause and reflect.

Ask God to show you:

  • What is the race I’m supposed to be running?
  • Am I running with purpose—or just going through the motions?
  • Who can I inspire, serve, or uplift as I walk in my calling?

You were created on purpose, to fulfill God’s Kingdom purpose.

Let’s go deeper together. In the next post, we’ll uncover what’s driving you—and how to shift from pressure-driven to purpose-driven.

Until then, take a moment to pray:
Lord, show me how You work and how You move. Help me walk in Your truth, and live each step with purpose. Amen.
